Which One Sells?

So, using the Wordpress-blog-as-internet-store is good (=free), but is also a challenge.

I’m working on how I can make the site informative and credible for the products, functional so customers can make purchases smoothly, and implementing enough visual draw for marketing purposes.

I’m looking for something that is more of an organic design (rather than boxy or linear), subdued color scheme, relaxing, but that has enough of an emphasis on the products so it’s obviously a place to shop rather than a traditionally informative blog.

With that in mind, any thoughts on these three choices?

My suspicion is that any of them will need some modifications and super-emphasis on marketing verbiage, photos, and “buy now” buttons, so the “store” is not passed by.

By the way, In Option B and C, the product photo can be pulled farther up on the site, so the image of the product provides more of an introduction to the products.)

  • I like the second one but I would suggest a more organic background so it’s not so square looking. For example, check out Dara’s Garden or Web Designer Wall.

These are just regular Wordpress blogs (okay technically Dara’s Garden might not be but it’s still a cool example) with a cool custom background image. Maybe bubbles or sand or something splashed behind the content would give it the homey look you like.

  • While at first glance I prefer the serenity of Option A I’d like to add that none of the options strike me as cozy, home like or spa like!

I’d picture maybe a cozy wee cottage with a smoking chimney, a picture of some simple candles or something bath related.

    :-)

  • I also like the second one.

While I have no real beef with Option A, Option C is definitely wrong.

The layout (3-column) is too confusing and distracts the eye.

Option B is simpler and hits you with a nice “bang” of color, which grabs attention and makes you look for color farther down the page. It will make your reader’s eye jump from color to color and help sell the pictures of your products.

    That’s my $.02 anyway.

  • I prefer Option A. Has a nice light feel to it and feels less ‘bloggish’

I noticed that you already changed the site from Option A to Option B, and that my comment is almost a month late.

  • I prefer option B. I like it how it is but as I said to a previous post I want to redesign it and add some shadows and some gradients.
This green with brown is very relaxing and fits exactly to your niche.

  • Option B.
