Keywords Already???

So, I was looking at my Google Analytics for thecozyhomespa.com…. and saw that these three keyword phrases sent 3 referrals to the site today:

1. “cinnamon bar soap”

If you type this phrase into Google, my site comes up as 13 on the first page:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=cinnamon+bar+soap

2. “oatmeal cinnamon soap”

Also, #3 on this phrase:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=oatmeal+cinnamon+soap

3. “brown sugar scrub”

And #19 here:

http://www.google.com/search?q=brown+sugar+scrub&hl=en&start=10&sa=N

This is just crazy to me because all I did was slap up those blog posts a few days ago, and have made no extra efforts for SEO, advertising, etc.

Of course, I didn’t get any conversions (read: sales) from those searches, but even getting found, is a great thing.

Yikes– is it really this easy? If you look at those phrases, there are a ton of results that come up. So I guess standing out from the pack is a factor.

But, making it on the visibility radar is the first step, right?

Anyway, it may very well be a fluke of the search engines, and tomorrow, I’ll be the gazillionth listing. But tonight, it makes me quite happy. :)

  • Have you thought of running a Pay Per Click campaign?

  • Gfish,

Thanks for your comment– I do want to try that, but haven’t dabbled in it at all yet.

I’m just starting to try my hand at SEO & internet marketing in this project, so if you have any tips, they’re definitely welcome! :)

(This week I’ve been focusing on finding out what keywords have high traffic, and relatively low competition, so I can know what to target. I’ll post on that soon.)

  • Here is one for you. Because of my occupation I play with that tools a lot.
So I suggest you to use the keyword tool and search with a list of unique (alone) keywords.
Write down a list of words that come you in mind about and around your products.
Some keywords might not be associated with your products but are complimentary.
Also to be your campaign more effective, I suggest to give something for the visitors email and name.
So your landing page could be a sign up form with name and email and offer a little piece of advice for exchange and some discount coupons.
Getting your visitors name and email you can get in touch with him/her every day/week/month and send him/her news/offers/discounts etc.
This will get your visitors to build trust upon you and will make them buy more.

  • Make sure the demand is there. You can use a free tool - http://freekeywords.wordtracker.com. This will give you an idea about demand on a day to day basis. Once you know there is sufficient demand, then you can research competition with Google.com by typing in allintitle:”the keyword phrase”. You can read more about this at my small business startup blog.
