Forum Q of the Week: Where Do You Find Business-Related Resources?

This Week’s Question

“Where do you go to find business resources? Mentor, forum/website, wikipedia, newsletter, etc.?”

On my del.ic.ious account, I have 93 keywords where I’ve saved articles & resources on business-related topics. One of those tags, “entrepreneurship”, has 31 articles available. Another, “VC”, has 8 sites or articles listed, and “micro-business” has 7 articles.

So I guess that’s my secret trick to finding information– I’m constantly reading and looking for blogs, sites, articles, and searching for business information that’s readily available on the internet.

My main source of general news is CNN, for tech news, TechCrunch, and for all things entrepreneurship, marketing, finance, micro-enterprise, etc., the blogosphere in general and Google.

For mentoring, I’ve met with mentors at the BYU Center for Entrepreneurship & Orem Small Business Development Center.

Probably the best source of business mentoring has come through my associates who are active entrepreneurs, working in the trenches of their business & dealing with similar problems & needs.

So, where do you gather information & resources to help you in your business? Please share with us by posting a reply on this week’s forum question!

  • one great local site is Ryan Byrd dot net (www.ryanbyrd.net), run by a self-proclaimed genius. If you can stomach the unsubstantiated wild ego, I think you’ll find a wealth of knowledge. For example:
here’s a recent article on creative strategies: http://www.ryanbyrd.net/rambleon/?p=671
here are his business strategy notes: http://www.ryanbyrd.net/strategy.php
and here are his general finance suggestions: http://www.ryanbyrd.net/rambleon/?p=581

  • I agree that RBDN has good content… now, what is this about ego? ;)

In fact, those marketing notes are quite comprehensive (19 pages of detailed questions to answer & data to gather for developing your marketing strategy!)

  • I found most of my best resources just by surfing the net. If I’m looking for something specific, Google, then the first site leads to another and to another and to another. My business is art, by the way, and I’ve been toying with setting up an extensive link library of the resource links I’ve been hoarding in my favorites folder for who knows how long, to share with others, but I just haven’t had time.

It hadn’t occured to me to start up a del.ic.ious account and just add the links as I find them, and supplement the older links along and along, so thanks for sharing that! I’ll have to start one.

I’m off to check out RBDN…I mean, who can resist a self-proclaimed genius?

  • KJ,

Thanks for the visit! By the way, I LOVE your site! I read some of your stories & am totally in awe of your art. Holy moly. :)

Del.ic.ious is great. I can’t believe how much information data I’ve lost over the past few years before using delicious, because once you move from a computer, there go the bookmarks!

RBDN is a great site. Self-proclaimed or real genius, it’s highly entertaining. :)
