Uhm… Where’s Your Revenue Model?

I just wrote this post about concentrating on having a revenue model, over at The Carolynn Blog. :)

(I’m not deliberately trying to get extra traffic on that site this week, just think y’all might enjoy that post.)

The gist of it is that we should all be asking ourselves, “Um… where’s my revenue model?” And if the answer is any of the following…

A. Somewhere far, far away from the basement I’m bootstrapping in.
B. What’s a revenue model?
C. I don’t know?
D. I’ve delegated that to my CFO/Controller/Accountant/Intern/Grandmother…
E. I have this really cool idea…
F. It’s in the business plan somewhere, hang on a sec, let me see if I can find the right page.
G. We’re going to get advertising.
H. We’re doing a subscription model. (And when pressed, you have no idea what that really entails).
I. YouTube just got acquired for $1.65 billion… our technology/product/idea/kiosk (lol!) is better than YouTube.
J. If we just get 1% of the market, we’ll be fine.
K. This is a billion dollar industry…
L. And the list goes on.

…then you need to run, not walk over to my post and answer the seven or so questions and start making aggressive plans to get to know your market & actual revenue potential. (This advice applies to myself as well. :) )
