this really happened to me…

It’s true. I think it was last Thursday (March 8th– 5 days before our 30-day deadline). Let me tell you, it wasn’t pleasant.

Basically, since I focused on the HDB so intensely, I have been slacking on everything else, including noticing when the bathtub has finished filling with water and is now creating an Olympic-size swimming pool in my bathroom. (Which I’m sure the first floor tenants really appreciated).

The last five days or so, I haven’t been responding to e-mails or working on The Entrepreneur Story. I hope you’ll understand while I catch up on things. ;)

* Free Business Idea *

Someone should invent an egg-timer w/ laser sensor installed on tubs– slogan: “Bathtubs for Busy People”.

The timer would start beeping after about 7 minutes or so, to remind the person that they were intending to not just fill the tub but actually use the water, and the laser sensor would have an auto-shut-off for the faucet… just in case.

And then as a security feature, perhaps an anvil would fall out of the sky and clunk you on the head to remind you to start paying attention to your life.
Something like this would have really saved me some mopping, and more importantly, salvaged my ego. ;)

  • Carolynn….
I’ve started to read your blog and I really LOVE it and your style girl. I also read Janet’s blog and that’s where I first heard about your kiosk in the mall, so then read about you and Kelly and another girl and The Hundred Dollar Business and saw the Copper Rain video! Great Job Carolynn!!! You are all such sweethearts!! If you don’t mind me commenting on your bathtub overflow, I think your idea of a new invention for “Bathtubs 4 Busy People” is a wonderful one. lol But your idea of an “anvil”, you said,” And then as a security feature, perhaps an anvil would fall out of the sky and clunk you on the head to remind you to start paying attention”lol is a bit severe and I would like to replace that with large “banannas” from heaven would fall out of the sky with your name on it. But just turn them over and see if it has “Newspapergrl”’s name on it as well, cause I think that she has been getting a BUNCH of them, (SShhhhhh, quiet) and some MAY have multiple girls’ names on them!! Maybe she’ll tell YOU, but she hasn’t shared with me at all?!! LOL Maybe she will with you!! (see her “get your name on a banana” blog on Feb. 24)

  • I know I dislike when I think of something and it’s already out there, but I remember seeing something like your tub sensor (sans anvil) in the movie Jennifer 8.

Especially useful for the blind or visually impaired to monitor water levels in tubs.

A cursory search came up with this product.

  • Carolynn, I better understand your recent “silence.” Dang woman! I had a similar experience in New York many years ago. Not pleasant. :-( …and, how is your relationship with your downstair’s neighbor, now?

    Cheers!

  • OK, even better.

    A tub designed to overflow.

  • @ Tawnie–thanks for the visit! I’m glad you found us through Janet’s blog. Perhaps you’re right about the anvil. After all, making mistakes is all part of the lovely learning we entrepreneurs experience… :)

@ Michael– you are awesome with the tub links! That made my day. Especially the one that overflows purposely. Way to be.

@ Jessan– I know, I’ve been slacking so much! I feel bad not having written back to so many people over the last few days, but i’m trying to take care of business. Ya know.

On the downstairs neighbors issue– luckily I live in an extremely quality apartment, and I mopped up the water before it had a chance to seep anywhere. Egads! ;)

  • Carolyn,
You are dangerous! Love the cartoon, it’s hilarious (and I can relate to being so into your business you forget important things - like that you are supposed to pick up your son from his dad’s house and they call you at 8pm to see if you’re coming).
I hope sales are going well. I’m so focused on my stuff that I haven’t kept good touch.
Bananas falling from the sky, that is funny too!! Heavenly fruit.
    Janet

  • Janet,

Thanks– it was fun to draw. :) I’m making the effort to transition from space-case to be-here-now mode. I think the overflowing tub was a wake up call of sorts (as well as other things: car battery died since I left my lights on, etc.).

Thanks for stopping by the blog! Come by anytime. :)
